I went home this past weekend. Although born in San Francisco, I haven't always lived there. I spent
6 years in Texas and then moved back to San Francisco.

Every time I touch ground in San Francisco, there is a sense of magic happening. The fresh crisp air
and slight breeze, both, contributing to create the magic. There are many more things that contribute
to the magic: Neapolitan pizzas, quality boba, views from piers, the varying diversity of people and
food along Market Street, and much more. Many say California is a diverse state but in fact, San
Francisco is the most diverse city on the west coast. San Francisco is a mini New York City, I would
say. Although seven by seven miles in size, the city is home for hundreds of thousands from all walks
of life.

For the past years that I've spent in San Francisco, I have not yet discovered why I call San Francisco
home. Is it because it offers opportunities or because my loved ones live around the area? I've been
intrigued by this question for quite some time. What defines home, the people, place, or things?
Luckily for me, San Francisco holds a special place in my heart for all reasons.

I love San Francisco and I have only been there twice! My best friend currently lives up there where she is attending school for her Masters degree and I was able to visit her before school started. There is just something about the air there that seems clean and refreshing compared to Los Angeles. I loved reading your description of the city and that made me remember the fun time I had visiting there. I wish to someday call San Francisco my home as well!
ReplyDeleteI actually love San Francisco better than LA - citywise. Downtown LA doesn't feel like a downtown for a big city. I like SF to the point I have drove there at least twice a year. I think it is the perfect combination of city and countryside. I was actually thinking to work in SF in the future!
ReplyDeleteI love San Francisco! It is one of my favorite cities, and I would love to live and work there when I'm older. I agree that it is like a mini New York City; it has much more of a city feel than LA does, in my opinion, but isn't as overwhelming as NYC!
ReplyDeleteSan Francisco is interesting to me because I've always heard it's comparable to Los Angeles, but people who have lived in both places feel very differently. A lot of people I know from SoCal have moved up there, and as you said, it's hard for even them to pinpoint what it is that makes it feel like home to them. I also like how you touched on the diversity of food; the boba there is great!
ReplyDeleteI haven't had the opportunity in going to San Francisco. With your description of the city it really makes me want to go ASAP! When it comes to your question what defines home I think it is more about a feeling; where you feel just right and for you San Francisco seems to be your home.
ReplyDeleteI agree that San Francisco is like a mini New York! I've visited SF many times and I love it there. I like going to Pier 39 for their crab chowder. I like a lot of restaurants around the area too. Last time I went it was really windy but I have to visit SF soon.
ReplyDeleteI visited San Francisco for the first time the last week on summer break. I loved the city and thought it was magnificent. I may be moving there after graduation, depending on where I get a job, so I enjoyed reading your blog :)
